The Government has discussed the Strategy for Cooperation with the World Bank for a five-year period

Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Sapar Isakov held a working meeting to discuss the Strategy of Cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the World Bank for 2018-2023.

The Head of Government has noted the special importance of the efficiency of participatory work with international partners for the development of the domestic economy.

World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia Lilia Burunchuk has stressed that in the forthcoming period it is necessary to use all available opportunities to ensure the growth of the country's economy.

According to her, Kyrgyzstan has great potential in various areas.

"Firstly, this is people. It should be noted that the level of education of the population in comparison with other countries with an equivalent income per capita is quite high. Secondly, it is the reserves of hydro resources, which offer great opportunities in the energy sector. In addition, Kyrgyzstan has a beautiful nature, which is the basis for the dynamic development of tourism in the country," Lilia Burunchuk said.  

She also noted the great potential of domestic agriculture. The Regional Director of the World Bank has stressed that the conducted studies showed that the production of agricultural producers in the country - corresponds to the demand of the nearest large consumption markets, such as China.

According to Lilia Burunchuk, all these are preconditions for a more dynamic development of the country's economy.

Bolormaa Amgaabazar, Permanent Representative of the World Bank in the Kyrgyz Republic, has presented information on a comprehensive study of the country's economy, which spoke on pressing problems and measures to attract investments, development of the energy sector, education, tourism, agriculture, and improving public administration and the private sector.

Prime Minister Sapar Isakov said that deep, structural reforms are needed to resolve the issues raised. The Head of Government stressed that to date, work has started to reform a number of sectors of the domestic economy, including the tax system and the digitization of government agencies. In addition, Sapar Isakov noted the special importance of synchronizing the World Bank projects with the governmental program "Jany Doorgo Kyrk Kadam".  

At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister has instructed to establish a working group of government officials to elaborate detailed measures for cooperation with the World Bank for the next five years.
