A solemn ceremony to celebrate the signing of a memorandum on cooperation between the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (Executive Committee of IFAS) and CAREC was held on November 13, 2017 in Ashgabat.
A solemn ceremony to celebrate the signing of a memorandum on cooperation between the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (Executive Committee of IFAS) and CAREC was held on November 13, 2017 in Ashgabat.

  The document was signed by Mr. Guizgeldi Baydzhanov, Chairman of the Executive Committee of IFAS, and Dr. Iskandar Abdullayev, Executive Director of CAREC. 

 The parties also signed the annexes to the Memorandum on the joint implementation in Turkmenistan of the project "Water, Education and Cooperation" (Smart Waters), which is implemented with the support of USAID, and the project "Central Asian Dialogue on the Use of Multisectoral  Financing Opportunities enhancing the Water-Energy-Food (NEXUS), which is implemented with the support of the European Union. The parties also signed the annexes to the memorandum on the joint implementation in Turkmenistan of the project, which is implemented with the support of USAID, and the project (NEXUS), which is implemented with the support of the European Union.

The main objective is to provide bilateral support in strengthening water cooperation in Central Asia, as well as providing technical assistance. At the ceremony, Mr. Baydjanov, that the document is a logical continuation of works in the field of environmental protection:

"The accumulated positive experience of joint cooperation between CAREC and the Executive Committee of IFAS in overcoming regional problems has become the basic continuation of the dialogue on the development of decisions after the transfer of the powers of the chairmanship to IFAS to Turkmenistan," he said. "The signing of this document will increase the effectiveness of the Executive Committee of IFAS, I will positively say on the water management situation, ecological condition and social and economic development in the Aral Sea region."
