A workshop "Institutional basics of introduction of IWRM principles in the field: River Basin Councils"

On April 24-25, 2018 in Tashkent, a regional training "Institutional basics for the implementation of IWRM principles in the field: River Basin Councils" was held. The meeting was attended by delegations from all countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan.
Jonathan Lautze (International Water Resources Institute) and Elizabeth Jaari (Stockholm International Water Institute) shared their international experience and examples of the work of river basin organizations, on the types of river basin organizations.
During the training, the standard provisions on the work of the river basin council, the legal basis for the establishment and activities of the river basin council and the experience of the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia in involving stakeholders were reviewed. A separate topic was dedicated to the mechanisms and tools for the work of river basin councils, and the possibilities of financing for their work. A positive example was the experience of Kazakhstan in the conclusion of river basin agreements in the successful work of the Balkhash-Alakol River Basin Council.
